Just when it was looking like former world number one Roger Federer was back to his best he has made a shocking announcement on Tuesday that his back injury has resurfaced and he will have to undergo surgery to get rid of the problem permanently. The only positive thing we can get out of this is that it will be a minor surgery and Federer would be able to get back to court at the start of grass season. Federer broke this really bad news by posting it on his official website. The Swiss star wrote, “I am extremely disappointed to announce that I will be missing entire clay court season as I have to undergo back surgery. I felt severe pain in my back during a practice session yesterday and doctors advised me to have surgery in order to get a permanent solution for this problem.” The Swiss Maestro added, “I know you guys will be disappointed as much as I am but I have to take this step in order to secure my future and keeping in mind my future goals. I am hoping that I will back before Wimbledon.” Federer had suffered a lot due to his back problems during last season but he was fully fit since the start of this year. The 32-year-old captured Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships title and then reaches the final in Indian Wells. The 17-time Grand Slam champion was stunned by Japan’s Kei Nishikori in the quarter-finals in Miami but there were no signs of any back injury during that match. The Swiss Maestro just got back to number four ranking this week but this injury break will be a big blow to his chances of ending the season even in top 8. If Federer misses the French Open, he will miss first Grand Slam after playing 57 of them consecutively. Its shocking news but we still hope that Federer would be able to come back to ATP Tour before the start of grass court season and would continue to play injury free till the end of this season.
