Just when you think weve beaten them back, infectious diseases rear their ugly heads. Just today we were advised of a parvo outbreak in Massachusetts and a canine influenza outbreak in Pennsylvania. Parvo is a disease that causes severe bloody diarrhea and vomiting, especially in younger dogs. If your dog is up to date on their distemper combo vaccine they are safe (if not, what are you waiting for??). Canine influenza is a virus that causes upper respiratory infections and pneumonia. We recommend this vaccine to dogs that board often or travel, especially to dog shows. If you think your pooch might be at risk, give us a call and we can discuss whether your dog is a candidate for the influenza vaccine. Infectious disease doesnt disappear when we vaccinate--it just waits for the pets that havent been protected!
