Justice 4 Grainger Campaign – Press Release (for immediate use) Protest at CPS Office, Sunlight House, Quay Street, Manchester, M3 3LU Monday 10 Feb, 12 noon 10/02/14 For further information on the Campaign contact Wesley Ahmed, 07881958176 On Monday 10 February at 12 noon, the same day the farcical ‘trial’ of Chief Constable Fahy under Health and Safety regulations begins in London, the Justice 4 Grainger Campaign will be protesting outside the CPS offices in Manchester. We condemn their perverse and corrupt decision not to charge any police officer for the death of Anthony Grainger but to instead charge the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, Peter Fahy, under Health and Safety Legislation. This decision is a blatant attempt by the state to further obstruct and deny justice to the family and friends of Anthony. On 21 September 2012 Anthony was by implication found innocent of any crime when a jury found the two men in the car with him at the time of his killing not guilty of conspiracy to rob. The decision of the CPS legitimises the legal murder of innocent people by the police on the streets of this country. The Justice 4 Grainger Campaign demands that the police officers involved in the planning and killing of Anthony Grainger to be put on trial for his death. cps.gov.uk/news/latest_news/the_shooting_of_anthony_grainger/index.html Information on the not guilty verdict for those in the car with Anthony Grainger, manchestermule/article/not-guilty-jury-clears-companions-of-police-shooting-victim-anthony-grainger manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/trio-accused-of-robbery-plot-with-police-695556 As we approach the second anniversary of Anthony’s shooting and death his family and friends are still waiting for the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) to publicise the report of its investigation into the killing. No Inquest has been held and everything is now on hold until the farcical ‘trial’ of Peter Fahy is over. Two year’s on there has been no inquest and no trial of those who bear the responsibility for shooting dead an innocent unarmed man. This is not surprising as last years Home Affairs Committee report on the IPCC found that amongst other things, ‘serious cases involving police corruption or misconduct are left underinvestigated’. Home Affairs Committee report into IPCC, 1 Feb 2013, parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/home-affairs-committee/news/130201-ipcc-report-published/ On Sunday 2 March from 1-3pm the Justice 4 Grainger Campaign will be marking the second anniversary of Anthony’s death with a speakout and vigil in Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester. Family members and campaigners of some of the 54 people shot and killed by the police in England and Wales since 1990 and the 955 people who have died in police custody in the same period have said they are coming to mark this sad occasion and to speakout about their own experience Statistics on deaths after contact with the police, inquest.org.uk/
