#Justice4Isaiah Weve just won a victory in the battle for justice for Isaiah Gatimu! The Minnesota Department of Human Rights has found in his favor regarding his claims of racist bullying against his school in northern Minnesota (Greenway). As many of you know, teenage Isaiah committed suicide not long ago, after spiraling into depression following the bullying and being forced out of school. After this tragedy, the school district refused to mediate with Isaiahs mother. Im guessing they figured if he couldnt testify, they didnt have anything to worry about. To make matters worse, the superintendent and the schools lawyer blamed Isaiah for his own harassment. But we presented evidence to the department not only of the extreme nature and frequency of the racist harassment, but also of repeated complaints to the school and the schools failure to take action. We had email proof, we had statements from students who witnessed the racist bullying and we had Isaiahs own handwritten accounts...so sad it brought tears to the eyes. The MDHRs findings are below. Page one appears first and the multi-page memo appears in the comments, following. The memo lays out details of the departments findings. I think its time the school district comes to the table and not only makes an effort to do the right thing with Isaiahs family, but also to change how this school deals with bullies (they were school athletes, one of whom recently was cited for indecent exposure after allegedly assaulting another student), so this never happens again. IF YOU WANT TO READ THE MDHRS FINDINGS, READ THEM IN THE COMMENTS POSTED BELOW by Joe Mannila. Each page of the memo is posted separately. If you click on each page, it will enlarge and you will be able to read it.
