Justin Martyr on Sunday morning worship: "And they who are well to - TopicsExpress

Justin Martyr on Sunday morning worship: "And they who are well to do, and willing, give what each thinks fit; and what is collected is deposited with the president, who succours [gives aid to/takes care of] the orphans and widows and those who, through sickness or any other cause, are in want, and those who are in bonds and the strangers sojourning among us, and in a word takes care of all who are in need." He describes early concepts of baptism, communion, passing of peace, prayers, thanksgiving, sermons, etc, all of which have their contemporary expression in the modern Church except for the above. We do all the spiritual stuff, but it rarely gets fleshed out in the taking care of the poor, needy, slave, stranger, widow or orphan. And they did this weekly! And now you know why this is such an important issue for me.
