K so last time a good sis told me something about how if we are walking in faith than we will be going down a road that leads to satisfaction & when we are not walking in faith we are going down a road that leads to complaining so one of the issues in this story is that God wants us to have faith in Him & His provision for us. Also while dealing with the issue of the spirit of dissatisfaction; i should have brought up this passage as it is the one i found that teaches me the source of satisfaction - 17 Ps 15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness. - looking at the face of God = learning about who God is by reading the scriptures & praying is the source of satisfaction - basically this leads us back to this one - Gen 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. - God Himself or the relationship we have with Him is our reward moreso than any of the blessings He gives us. The quicker we learn this truth the more we can do for God because we know that the blessings dont matter so it is no big deal to pass them on to other people because what the blessings are or who has them is unimportant compared to being in good standing with the blessor. Num 11:16 And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee. 17 And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone. 18 And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat. 19 Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days; 20 But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the LORD which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt? 21 And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month. 22 Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them? 23 And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD’S hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not. So here YHVH has heard all of the complaining in the previous section; and because not only the people in general have been infected by the spirit of dissatisfaction; but so has Moses, it is time to do something about it - So Moses is told to do what Jesus did before Jesus did it in Lk 10:1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. - and gather 70 men who are leaders similar to the 12 (hmmm Jesus had 12 disciples/apostles too) And God said that the same Holy Spirit that is upon Moses will also be shared with them so that Moses didnt have to bear the burden of watching over them by himself; so God said the same thing Moses father in law said a long time ago in Ex 18:13-26; however it appears that because the people that were helping Moses since that section were not enough help; my guess is that they were only helping Moses in carnal matters whereas these 70 are given the Holy Spirit to help Moses in spiritual matters. So it appears that when the body is sick God has a pattern of fixing the head then the body as the leader & his attitude is the 1st one seen to & after that God goes about giving the body what it wants but here it is not so much to appease or help them like the 70 were to help Moses but rather Gods plan was to give them so much meat that they will be bored with that & get sick of it, just as they were with the manna before. So God wants to teach them a lesson & this may be where we get that saying Be careful what you ask for - you just might get it. God told Moses to tell the people to get ready for a month worth of meat because they are showing contempt towards God by looking back towards Egypt - Heb 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. - So this verse confirms what my sis said last time about this story dealing with faith as while we are in faith we are beliving that God is taking us somewhere & taking care of us along the way & while we are not in faith we are wishing we had what we had before while we were in slavery to sin & in their case the Egyptians. So in verse 21 Moses responds to God that he doesnt know how God can make this happen unless he has Moses kill all the flocks or perhaps gather all the fish in the sea (atm them being in a desert that would be hard as there is probably only a river or 2 & no sea within 100 miles of their position - YHVH tells Moses in response Has my arm grown short? or has my power or influence diminished since yesterday when i was splitting the red sea so that you could walk across on dry land? You will see what my word is worth, if it is trustworthy shortly. So lucky for Moses God didnt get upset with him talking back here - but one of the things that God is showing here is His great power to be able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think (Eph 3:20b). Ok so regardless if i wanted to finish the chapter this time, the next section is so powerful i will probably talk about it a good deal more than you want to read today, so ima save it for next time.
