KABUL GUESTHOUSE ATTACK The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to refer to the attack on a guesthouse in Kabul, Afghanistan on 28 March 2014. The guesthouse was occupied by a group of volunteers and workers of an international aid group. The Taliban had claimed responsiblility for the attack where five of their fighters were killed. The Afghan security forces managed to intervene and put the situation under control. All foreigners who were caught up when the attack began managed to be rescued unharmed. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs received information that one of the foreigners caught up during the attack is a Malaysian national who is part of the workers of the international aid group. The Malaysian has exited Afghanistan after the incident and has safely arrived in Malaysia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to reiterate that it is important for Malaysians travelling abroad, especially to high risk countries, to engage themselves with the Embassy of Malaysia in the respective countries or at the point of transit. This will assist the Embassy in providing the required consular assistance to Malaysians abroad. The High Commission of Malaysia in New Delhi covers Afghanistan.
