KANO ASSEMBLY PROBES SHEKARAU’S GOVT OVER N7BN CONTRACT The Kano State House of Assembly yesterday commenced probe of the administration of former governor Ibrahim Shekarau with the invitation of two of his former commissioners over alleged N7bn contract scam. The former Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Engineer Sarki Labaran and his Rural and Community Development counterpart, Alhaji Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso, were grilled yesterday by the legislators over the contracts for three roads worth N7billion. At the sitting, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Alhaji Isa Ahmed, and his Rural and Community Development counterpart, Alhaji Dahiru Bichi, who served during Shekarau’s tenure were also interrogated. Six legislators who are members of the PDP were absent at the sitting while almost all the 36 APC legislators attended. The Deputy Majority Leader Yusuf Babangida Sulaiman said the former aides of Shekarau were invited in view of the 2008 audit of the state’s account that indicated shoddy practices in the contract award. Abdullahi Yaryasa of the Tudun Wada constituency listed the projects as Takai/Sumaila/ Magami road, Kwanar Ungogo/ Kera road and Tofa road. In his testimony, the former permanent secretary Isa Ahmed said due process was followed in the award of the contracts.
