KIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok even before you read one more word of this please know that this is the most biased review of KICK that you shall ever read…… The biggest positive that you shall take from this movie is that Salman is back with a bang or should I say with a Kick! The biggest negative is that Salman is too conscious to lend himself uninhibitedly to romance. There is just no point thrusting him into a romantic twist if he himself isn’t convinced. And thus this brings the first 45 minutes of the first half to its knees and leaves you wondering what the quartet of script writers were doing? Especially since one of them is the author of Two States. But once you have gotten over that part, Whoa!!!! What a treat this movie is! Especially for the hardcore Salman fans like me…. He is just tooooooo good looking and fills the screen with his presence which is immense. It’s been 25 years since Maine Pyaar Kiya and finally Salman has learnt how to dance and act and sing and how he wows us, whilst doing this. What do I say about the story? It is totally missing in the first half and very fast paced in the second half. A simple story of a cockamamie genius who does not know what to do with his overactive brain, and the animation to explain all this to us half-wits was just plain silly! Well at least the writers and director have once and for all explained to us what KICK means! It felt like they were giving pedagogy on KICK to us! But get past this 45 minutes and then it is such a treat for the Salman fans. I haven’t seen Salman share screen space so generously ever in all his earlier movies and he does so in this one with the best of them. Nawazzuddin (I can never get his spelling correct!) is so good. He has it made already and this movie kinda endorses that. He is this evil villain with the most normal name a villain could have- Shiv Gajra hee hee hee. He is superlative and I hope that we get to see him in more potboilers after this. Randeep Hooda is such a hunk and what a treat to the eyes, he doesn’t have much to do, but does what little he can to make a mark. Surprisingly my favourite moment in the movie is one of Salman dancing on “Saat samundar paar” in a bar. Gosh he dances so well, I never knew and for some weird reason it was this parody which has stuck in my head. The songs are all good and my favourite was Salman and Nargis gyrating to Marjaawan…. Whew! The whistles on that one brought the house down! This movie is Salman redux and I am eagerly awaiting his next with Barjatya…. Ciao guys till next Friday!
