KIMEP UNIVERSITY ALIGNS ITSELF FURTHER WITH GLOBAL ACCOUNTANCY BODY Kazakhstan’s accounting professionals on route to ACCA’s international qualification Students at KIMEP University in Kazakhstan have now gained six exemptions to the coveted ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) qualification under two business degrees in accounting at the university. Last month, KIMEP students studying the Bachelor in Accounting and Audit (BACTA) and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accounting (BSc with Accounting specialisation) programs attained exemption to the ACCA F7 paper – Financial Reporting. Earlier this year, KIMEP secured accreditation from ACCA giving students of these two programs exemption to the accountancy body’s F6 paper – Taxation. Previously, four more exemptions were granted. In practice, this means that these KIMEP students will be exempt from sitting six papers should they decide to complete the ACCA global accountancy qualification. Altyn Shakirkhanova, ACCA head in Kazakhstan, said: This latest accreditation for KIMEP totals six exemptions for students on these two business and accounting degrees to the ACCA global qualification should they wish to go on and qualify to become ACCA accounting and finance professionals. Why is this so important? It shows that KIMEP is looking to produce graduates who can go into the business world with a globally focused understanding of accounting and finance, or go on to qualify with ACCA as it looks to develop professional accountants the world needs. These exemptions also send a clear signal to future accounting and business students that KIMEP is preparing accounting and finance professionals with a global outlook and ambitions for Kazakhstan – such as the internationally recognised ACCA’s qualification. KIMEP Accounting faculty member Nurlan Orazalin stated: KIMEP University has set out to secure all nine exemptions granted by ACCA for our accounting students and also offer additional preparatory courses, so they can graduate from KIMEP with maximum ACCA qualification either from the existing Bachelor program or from a newly established specialized Master program in Accounting and Audit (MACTA), which will be launched in August this year. Our aim is to further strengthen the calibre of our graduates so that they can benefit not just Kazakhstan’s business community, but also serve the world’s accounting and finance professional needs. KIMEP underwent vigorous assessment of its degrees by ACCA to secure all of its ACCA exemptions. The ACCA Qualification has been officially benchmarked as being equivalent to the UK Master’s degree, one which requires four years study. -ENDS- FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE CONTACT Ms Altyn Shakirkhanova, head of ACCA Kazakhstan Mob.: +7 701 288 52 13 Altyn.shakirkhanova@accaglobal Notes to Editors KIMEP is non-profit institution of higher education.
