The Political Agent is the head of the agency.He perform several functions at the same time,he acts as an executive,District Magistrate , Session Judge & revenue collector. other significant actors include the Maliks & the lungi holders,who play a vital role in maintaining the status quo that emerged from the colonial period of indian sub - continent in the tribal areas. these Maliks & the lungi holders,are paid with allowances & subsidies to ensure they remain loyal to the political agent. A Maliki is hereditary and devolves on the son and his son so on, however, an individual can succeed in rising to the status of a Malik by dint of personal qualities which is a sound incentive for merit. these Maliks & the lungi holders receive a number of other benefits including a share in developmental construction contract,share in Khassadaris, jirga kharcha (expenditure) and a monthly stipend from the Political Agent etc. Few words from Ayaz Wazir article (Thursday, October 31, 2013) Since the colonial days matters in Fata used to be resolved through the FCR by political agents and the tribal Malik system which was set aside with the arrival of the army on the stage.
