KL one of least expensive cities to visit JUNE 13, 2013 KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 — Travellers in Kuala Lumpur can expect a good time as the city is ranked as among the least expensive for a night out on the town. According to a cost comparison of the world’s key cities, Kuala Lumpur ranks No. 7 and it costs US$218 (RM675) for a one night’s stay that includes cocktails, dinner and a short taxi ride. Topping the most expensive cities list in TripAdvisor’s TripIndex Cities 2013 list? Oslo, Norway, which was also named the most expensive city to live in recently. Not only will dinner for two that includes two courses and a bottle of wine set you back US$266 in the Norwegian capital, but according to The Economist Intelligence Unit’s latest 2013 Worldwide Cost of Living Index, a loaf of bread costs US$6. AFP reports that The Economist’s index also pegs the cost of a “high-end” three-course dinner for four with wine at US$813. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Sydney, costing US460 for a night out, ranked No. 6 among the European-dominated mix of priciest places that included Zurich No. 2, Stockholm No. 3, Paris No. 5, London No. 7 and Copenhagen No. 8. Southeast Asia claimed three cities in the 10 least expensive destinations with Hanoi, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur ranking No. 2, No .6 and No. 7 respectively. “The list shows that Asia is the most affordable continent, while Europe is the most expensive, but some European cities — like Sofia, Warsaw and Budapest — are bucking this trend,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted a TripAdvisor spokesman as saying. While the cost of a hotel stay was the most expensive of any items of the night, the biggest disparity between cities was the return taxi trip.
