>>>KLN-UPDATEThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Wednesday said it was ready to take National Conference’s support to form the government in J&K if the latter “formally makes a forward movement” in this direction. The move by PDP, which emerged as single-largest party in the election results Tuesday, comes a day after the outgoing Chief Minister and working President of National Conference Omar Abdullah hinted at a possibility of supporting PDP informing a government in the state after the polls threw up a hung verdict. “The PDP has emerged as single largest party but we cant form the government on our own. At the same time we have no problem in taking support of anybody, including National Conference, to form the government. Let it (NC) formally assure us of its support, we will go ahead,” said PDPs senior leader Syed Altaf Bukhari, who won from Srinagar’s Amira Kadal constituency. “These issues are not discussed and deliberated on media channels and newspapers. Instead there is a proper procedure which needs to be followed. Let them (NC) come up with a written assurance about their support, we dont have any problem,” he told GK. Bukhari said the mandate which people gave was for “change” and that needs to be respected. On Tuesday, Omar had told PTI that for a possible NC-PDP alliance theonus was on PDP to approach him. “I dont rule out or rule in anything thereafter,” he had said. The fractured mandate that emerged from yesterdays election results has opened all options for the government formation in J&K with PDP winning 28 seats, 16 short of majority in the 87-member legislature, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) getting 25 seats, National Conference 15 and Congress 12. The PDP is weighing all options on how to move forward on government formation in J&K. Soon after the election results were out, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said her party would explore all options to choose the best possible one for government formation and it would take time. Today, a senior leader said the PDP wouldwait and watch to see how things unfold in coming few days.He said as of now the PDP, which ruled J&K for three years from 2003 to 2005 during PDP- Congress coalition government, has not received any communication from any party about allying with them for government formation in J&K. “No, we haven’t received any feelers fromBJP yet,” he said. Though NC and PDP are arch- rivals on thestate’s political landscape, there is a possibility of the two coming together to form the government with support from other candidates. With PDP bagging 28 and NC 15, they would require support of an independent candidate to form the government. Omar on Tuesday said two of the independent candidates who won the election—one from Ladakh and another from Udhampur—were backed by his National Conference.ණ For more updates Click LIKE Optn . . .
