KP, which was my first proper trek in a hilly terrain and definitely one of my best trek, off late has become a picnic spot with loads of people attempting it during peak season. Thats the reason it has became a dustbin with huge number of plastics and bottles littered here and there. So last weekend we as a team of 14 from Bangalore ASCENDers decided to go on a cleanup drive and attempt to pick as much litters as possible. And much to our surprise by the time we reached Mantapa (which lies halfway to the peak), our garbage bags were already full, we never thought there would be so much kacharas in such a beautiful place. What a pity, we trek because we want to escape the noisy and polluted atmosphere of our city life so that we can spend some time rejuvenating ourselves deep inside the greenery and freshness of nature. Yet we end up throwing plastics everywhere. Coming back to the trek, it was so much fulfilling in itself, the moment when the drive was over and all the gunny bags tied neatly to the top of our TT to be carried back to a recycling center, our joy knew no bounds. If everyone starts understanding that plastics/wrappers are meant to go to dustbin, not to be littered hear and there, what a beautiful place this earth would be.
