KR4 Grassroots rider, @Mark Proper Race report! Check it out! Being a part of KR4s Grass Roots program for the later half of this season, I decided to give their Arrive N Ride program a go at the last round in Crawfordsville, IN. During the 7 hour trip to Crawfordsville, I scared myself several times by looking in the rear view mirror and not seeing my bike. Then it would hit me, this isnt my F-350 with Husky and camper in tow, its a KIA, and Im getting 36 MPG! It was definately a weird feeling going to a race and leaving the bike, tools and parts at home; but its one that I could get used to real quick after my first Arrive N Ride experience. The track and weather presented the best race conditions all season. The venue was magnificent as evident by the record attendance level during the race weekend. I lined up on the second to last row in Senior B 40+ with 25 other competitors. Not being a huge fan of MX tracks in addition to being on a totally different bike had me a little nervous on the starting line. When the green flag raised though, my KR4 Perfomance KTM250F lit up and got me to the first turn well inside the top 10. I lost several positions on the Ironman MX track due to my lack of confidence and unfamiliarity with the bike. I wasnt going to end my day early like I witnessed a lot of guys do during the 10am race. With the MX track behind me, I was starting to get a feel for the bike in the woods. By the end of the first lap I made a couple on the fly clicker adjustments on the WP forks and was starting to feel more comfortable on the bike. I was scored in 15th place after the first lap and determined to make up ground from there. I put in a solid second lap and the KR4 team provided a quick and flawless gas stop, which resulted in gaining one position. I had a flawless third lap and still managed to avoid disaster at the numerous creek crossings and hill climbs. I was scored in 12th place after lap 3, and with the white flag flying, I new I had one more lap this season to give it all I had. I continued with a good pace but made a disappointing mistake on Ironman Hill and lost a little time. I finished the day in 11th place 26 seconds behind 10th and another 12 seconds behind the 9th place finisher. I believe it I hadnt made a mistake on the last lap I could have pulled out a top 10 finish for the day. Regardless, the KR4 Arrive and Ride team experience was awesome and my mid pack results in Senior B motivate me to work harder during the off season. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the KR4 Performance team and look forward to growing with them in the years to come. Thank you for a great season. -- Regards, Mark R.Proper General Manager PROper Cutter, Inc. propercutter
