KSU, KLH reacts to CM defending MOGPL Kyong Students’ Union (KSU) and Kohima Lotha Hoho (KLH) have expressed shock at the way how Nagaland chief minister has defended Metropolitan Oil & Gas Pvt. Ltd. (MOGPL). In a statement, KSU president Amos Odyou and general secretary T. Phyobemo Kikon MOGPL had never clarified in any manner with regard to the allegations against its company’s activities or its associations with other ventures such as Ten (10) Million tons per annum petroleum refinery at Haldia, West Bengal operated by CALS refinery; 2000 MW thermal power plant in Tamil Naidu operated by SRM Energy Limited; Auto LPG dispensing stations operated by Spice Gas and Oil sands concessions at democratic Republic of Congo. KSU said the company has not clarified on the allegation that its promoter has been found to have been involved in fraudulent and unfair trade practices through Global Depository Receipts (GDRs) and therefore banned from raising equity in India for a period of 10 years by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) vide order No.WTM/PS/ISD/02/2011 dated the 21st Sept. 2011. KSU also pointed out that MOGPL was incorporated as a private company only on September 14, 2012 and the same has not been listed in any stock exchanges in the world and has no record of experiences in oil business anywhere in the world. KSU also reminded that MOGPL was only three months old when it filed Expression of Interest (EoI) on January 7, 2013. KSU also condemned home minister, Y.Patton for terming the KSU agitation as “illogical” and questioned Patton as to why 144 CrPc was promulgated when there was no apprehension in a particular area regarding law and order. KSU sought an answer from the government for stopping and “manhandling” only the KSU volunteers on the way to Changpang at Baghty and Bhandari areas. KSU asked the home minister on who was that “someone” misguiding KSU as reported in the media. The union in pursuance of its commitment to serve the welfare of the general public on the issue has convened a consultative meeting with Kyong Hoho, Kyong Eloe Hoho, Lotha Youth Hoho, Kohima Lotha Hoho, Lotha Hoho Dimapur, Lotha Gazzetted Officers Association, every Village Councils and Range Public Organizations, religious community leaders, elders and intellectuals on July 25 (Friday) 2014 at DBS Youth Resource Centre at 11.00 a.m. Wokha. KLH: Kohima Lotha Hoho (KLH) also asked why was the state government in such a hurry to launch the oil exploration before addressing the legitimate demand for review of the Modalities on NP&NG, Rules and regulation as well as without clearing the credentials of the MOGPL. KLH chairman Nchumbemo Tungoe and general secretary Thunglamo Ovung said the state government went ahead even without responding to the democratic stance of the students. KLH also asked how could such a programme be launched in the absence of the department of geology & mining and said these were gross discrepancies and proofs of vested interests. It was now for all sensible tribal hohos and organizations to judge whether such modus operandi would serve the interest of the Nagas. Under such prevalent circumstances, how such a Company with dubious credential be entrusted to explore the natural resources in the state, asked KLH. KLH said ONGC extracted beyond the agreed amount to the tune of 1.3 million tons worth Rs. 329 crores but only Rs.33 crores was paid as royalty. The hoho said the amount was paid to Nagaland Government and out of which a meagre Rs. 63 lakh was given to the landowners and this should be an eye opener. The matter was of grave concern but no previous governments had taken it seriously, said KLH and urged the present government to pursue the matter in the right earnest. The hoho stated that it was reasonably and consciously clear that the way Nagaland government was handling the customary ownership rights of the people in the state with regard to its resources was not at all in the interest of the people. -NP
