@KWARAGOVT EQUIPS WORKERS WITH MODERN ELECTRONIC APPLICATIONS The Kwara State Government has trained 2500 workers on Information Communication Technology (ICT) the State Head of Service (HoS), Alhaji Dabarako Mohammed, has said. Mohammed made this known while declaring open a two-day workshop on” Exposing the Civil Servants to Communication Technology through the use of social media application for officers across all cadres in the state civil service, organized by the office of the HoS. The Director, Management Services and Training at the office of the HoS, Mrs Serah Kperogi, who represented the HoS at the event held at the Kwara State College of Education, Saw Mill Area, Ilorin, noted that laptops were also donated to the trained officers. Mohammed at the workshop organized in collaboration with Ace Heritage Limited, informed that the training was designed to equip the workers with modern electronic applications for an enhanced performance in their day to day duties. Dabarako said, “you will agree with me that the present administration sustains interest and determination to have a paradigm shift from paper and ink transaction to electronics-transaction. Exposing you to mobile and internet technology which are the bed rock for e-communication apparatus for effective and efficient service delivery cannot be over emphasized. “In line with this laudable initiative, this workshop will compliment the past administration’s effort to sustain government basic Information Communication Technology (ICT) initiated some years back”. Alhaji Mohammed stated that the state has one of the leading stakeholders in e-governance. This, to a large extent, justifies the continuity of the programme in view of its immense contributions to the continuity development of our officers on one hand and effective delivery of service on the other. Emphasizing the importance of ICT, he mentioned that, “it will not be out of context to say that in this our computer technologically inclined age, the opportunities that social media applications namely, twitter, facebook, google etc., offer to both the public and the private sectors when they directly get in touch with the government through unofficial channels. “In the same vein, public can get access to government policies, not only that, they can monitor and evaluate policies and programmes. The government in turn will get a wider range of informed feedback that will strengthen and improve quality decision”. He said it bacome imperative to equip the workers with the operational skills, techniques in social media application which will serve as an apparatus for building digital skills and capacity required to bridge communication gaps between the government and the public, ‘thus increasing efficiency in bringing about the much needed development to the good people of Kwara State’. He enjoined the participants to actively participate in all sessions of the workshop so as to enhance cross fertilization of ideas that will stimulate growth and economic development. He also commended the government collaborators, Ace Heritage Limited for the expertise displayed in putting together the workshop. However, the Head of Service commended the state Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, for gladly responding by approving the workshop for officials in the state civil service. In his remark, the Chief Executive Officer, Ace Heritage Limited, Mr Chalse Olatoye, said the training was to expose the workers to effective communication through social media. Olatoye advised the participants to imbibe whichever training they will acquire from the workshop in their co-workers and to also allow the impact of the training to be noticed in their jobs. He appreciated the state government and the HoS for giving them the opportunity to train the staff.
