KY-102 and Dick and Jay played a monumental role in the 1980 - TopicsExpress

KY-102 and Dick and Jay played a monumental role in the 1980 Cruisin USA Car Craft series, even though they (and we who set it up) had no intention of it going the way it did. We had no idea so many car nuts/motorheads/gearheads listened to KYYS until we saw Noland Road blocked with cruisers from I-70 to 24 HiWay or Peters Drive In filled to the brim and State Avenue blocked from end to end. Car Crafts Neil Britt described Kansas City as the Wildest Cruise yet and trust me, it was. As I was sitting on 35th and Noland Road, actually, hiding in Dougs black Chevy van, I thought about what jail would feel like or what the police were going to say to us after they got us in the paddy wagon. Truly, I have never been so concerned as I was that evening when I saw what havoc we caused. But, it went well, no one got hurt and we got some awesome photos. The Kansas side of the cruise was a bit wilder but again, it ended up going pretty well until someone brought out that Christmas Tree and set it up on State Ave. The Metcalf cruise stop was more quiet and rather uneventful. And, we owe it all to Dick and Jay and KY-102 and the listeners who, like me, hung on those guys daily antics. Ill never forget those four days in May, 1980. Reading the documents I have shared, you can see why. Anyone see themselves in any of our pictures?
