Kaduna airport records first airlift of Christian pilgrims osundefender.org/?p=196767 The Kaduna International Airport on Thursday airlifted Christians to Israel to perform this year’s Holy Pilgrimage. This is the first ever since the airport was built. At the airport to bid the intending pilgrims farewell was the state Governor Mukhtar Yero and other top government officials. The governor said his administration increased the number of Christian pilgrims sponsored by the state from 468 in 2013 to 567 in 2014, representing 19 per cent. Yero noted that his administration was committed to ensuring that all sections of the state, regardless of religions, were treated equally and fairly. According to him, the state is determined to improve the well-being of the people at all times. Yero appealed to the intending pilgrims to remain good ambassadors of the country while in the Holy Land. He said, “You must not indulge in any action capable of tarnishing the image of Kaduna State and Nigeria. “I urge you to use the period of the holy pilgrimage to pray for peace in the country, especially as we approach the 2015 general elections.” Yero congratulated the pilgrims on the opportunity to embark on the divine assignment and prayed for their safe return from Israel at the end of the pilgrimage. In his remarks at the event, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission, Mr. John-Kennedy Opara, commended the governor for his support to the Christian pilgrims in the state.
