Kalabash Ghana (KG) is a local non-governmental organization founded in 2007 under the registrar general of companies code 1963 (Act 179) as a Non-Governmental Organization with registered number G.21, 707. Kalabash Ghana started operations in April 2008 and gained recognition as a Humanitarian Service Oriented foundation from the Social Welfare Department in 2009. Kalabash Ghana was established to support the government of Ghana to improve potable water supply, gender development and education in northern Ghana. The foundation has now added energy and environmental development programme within its core objectives. Our vision We envision a just Region where no woman weeps for clean drinking water, quality education and start-up capital – even in the most remote areas of the Region. Our mission To work in coalition with national government of African nations, international and national NGOs and the private sector to halt and begin to reverse the structures that constrain water, education and women development in Ghana and the West African sub region. Mandate Kalabash Ghana implement projects that are presented, owned, and would be controlled by the people who will directly benefit from them Kalabash Ghana implement projects that will address the long-term corrections of conditions that keep people bound in poverty Kalabash Ghana implement projects that are sensitive to the environment Kalabash Ghana works with alliance of people who are socially and economically underprivileged so that our support may bring some control and improvement over their livelihood. Approach Kalabash Ghana adopts the bottom-top participatory development approach to achieve our objectives. Kalabash Ghana works directly with the alliance of beneficiaries which allow us to associate with the people, listen to them and understand the social and economic difficulties they face. “The best sustainable development approach should be one that considers the input of the beneficiary in identifying and solving the problem in the interest OF the beneficiary and done BY the beneficiary to bring lasting benefits FOR the beneficiary”. We work in collaboration with local government authorities and public institutions in the identification, design, and implementation of projects that alleviate the predicament of rural people in the Upper East region of Ghana within the scope of our vision and mission.
