Kamala Jansson, who normally resides with her Swedish husband in Ånge (Västernorrlands län) had a grand opening of her own exhibition of textile art and national costumes in the Yeni Gallery in Baku 17 September. The Gallery was filled with admirers of Kamala’s beautifully artefacts and costumes. Kamala is a quite experienced exhibitor but has always dreamed of an exhibition like this one in Baku. At the opening, we all rejoiced with Kamala that the dream had come true. Many visitors were amazed that she was able to remain so true to the artistic heritage of her native Azerbaijan despite the distance to her new home in northern Sweden. Kamala seemed unencumbered by geography in her artistic work and spoke of Sweden with great enthusiasm. Among the guests and speakers were the president of the Azerbaijani artists society and other well-known people from the cultural sphere in Baku as well as members of the diplomatic community. Tomas Danestad of the Swedish Embassy (in the picture here with Kamala) was of course present and had the pleasure to also meet with Kamala’s lovely family and friends.
