Karen Sievert: The Nifty Needle Author, Teacher, Speaker and International Award Winning Longarm Machine Quilter theniftyneedle A little about Karen Karen began her quilt making journey in 1997 when her sister, Barbara, dragged her into a quilt shop, firmly stating that she needed a hobby! Immediately hooked, Karen has been quilting, designing, and teaching ever since. She is the past owner of 2 quilt shops, and now owns a long arm machine quilting business and is a published author. An International award winning quilter, Karen states that what she loves most about quilting is the friendships shes forged, friendships that have sustained her through out the many moves shes made due to her husbands military career. Today, Karen remains passionate about quilting, she loves sharing with other quilters through lectures, classes and workshops. She lives in Bailey, NC., with her husband Vince, and their dogs Harley and Shiloh. Karen will be teaching at Cowles Quilting this July. Contact Julie for class registration. In this fun, fact filled hands on opportunity, students will learn the basics of longarm quilting. This class focuses on the use of rulers for straight line quilting, specialty rulers for curved cross-hatching, circles, clamshells, feather spines and more. Youll be thrilled by how easy these tools are to use and how beautiful your results are when you have the right ones in Your Toolbox! Friday July 11, 2014 Feathers and Flourishes This class is all about free-motion feathers and fills! Feathers are one of the most loved motifs in quilting and many of us long to make them free-hand. The class focuses on several methods of making traditional as well as non-traditional feathers, and a wide variety of background fills that really make them shine! Karen will show you how easy both feathers and fills are by building on one skill at a time! Saturday July 12, 2014 The Art of Trapunto Mystified by trapunto, but love the look? This is one of my absolute, all-time favorite methods of quilting because trapunto adds so much dimension and that WOW factor to many quilts! In this hands-on class, students will learn how truly simple and magical trapunto and shadow-trapunto is. Best of all each student will go home with a sample they have made!
