Kashmir Pandits block highway to protest power cuts Hundreds of Kashmir Pandits blocked the Jammu- Srinagar Highway during the night to protest against the power curtailment in the Jagti Township. Reports said hundreds of Jagti Township came on roads and blocked the Jammu –Srinagar Highway at Nagrota for several hours here on Sunday evening. Over 1,000 men, women and children took out a protest rally from Jagti township and marched towards the Jammu-Srinagar Highway blocking it at Kol Kandoli Nagrota on the outskirts of Jammu city. “The life of camp inmates of Jagti Township has become totally miserable with 14 to 16 hours power cut daily and despite the repeated please the authorities have not taken any step in bettering the situation,” a protester said. They warned that in case the power cut crisis was not solved the entire population of the township will come on streets and launch a forceful agitation. They demanded that the curtailment schedule prevalent in other parts of Jammu be enforced in the township also. Expressing the concern over the unscheduled power cut at jagti township the Kashmiri Pandit Conference veteran leader Kundan Kashmiri told to press that Jagti township is the mirror of the of Kashmiri Pandit community in exile and inmates in the camp are the constant fear of causality threat due to unscheduled power cut and rob of basic amenities. “We are facing power cuts for 18 hours. We cannot sleep and perform normal chores due to cuts,” Jagti dweller Satish Pandita said. He said that despite repeated appeal to the government power supply has not improved in the township. “If the government failed to address our grievances we will be forced to intensify our agitation,” he said. ¤¤mir faisal¤¤
