Kashmir shuts to mourn death of 7 civilians in road accident Srinagar: Kashmir Thursday observed a shutdown in response to a strike call issued by separatists to mourn the death of seven civilians in a road accident in Zainakote. Seven passengers – five of them from Sopore town – died on July 16 when an Army pick-up truck rammed into a passenger cab on Srinagar-Baramulla highway. The accident sparked protests from locals who clashed with police for several hours. Private transport plied normally while public transport remained affected due to the strike. Shops and business establishments remained shut in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk area. However, shops remained open in some areas on the outskirts of the city. In city’s downtown area, authorities erected barricades at various cross-sections to curb the traffic movement. Shops and other business centers were closed and streets wore a deserted look.
