Kathe Decker and I went on vacation to Taos, New Mexico last week. We visited the Taos Pueblo Indians. The Pueblo Indians have a rich and long history all throughout New Mexico. There are 19 groups of the Pueblos. This is the Red Willow group. The cemetery is the site of a Catholic church that was destroyed by the American military in the mid 1800s. It was destroyed after the Pueblos and Mexicans killed many American officials in retaliation for their occupation. Then Americans retaliated by trying to suppress the uprising while many more were killed.
