Katie Bell loved to fly. She had always loved the weightlessness, - TopicsExpress

Katie Bell loved to fly. She had always loved the weightlessness, the feeling of freedom as she soared higher and higher, the wind blowing through her hair. She had flown from a very young age, whizzing around the house on her toy broomstick that her uncle had gotten her for her birthday. It had made her mother nervous (her mother was a muggle who just could not see the excitement wizards got from riding around on a broom), but her father had laughed it off. Dont worry, love, she is fine. We have a little Quidditch player on our hands! And he was right. When Katie was made Chaser in her second year, he was the first one she sent an owl to. She couldnt believe it. She loved flying so much that being on the team almost made up for the Bludger that smashed her in the back of the head during her first game....Almost. During her seventh year at school, after touching that necklace, she experienced a different kind of flying. It wasnt what she was used to. There was no lightness, no feeling of being free. It was like being pushed and pulled in opposite directions. She was trying to keep afloat, trying to swim to the shore, but the waves just keep shoving her back down until the air was gone from her lungs and she woke up months later in hospital, with her parents worried faces glancing down at her. Yet, it hadnt taken long before she was back on her broom, much to her mothers dismay. Her father had been right, Katie was built for the skies. So it came as no surprise to anyone that she was part of the air strike during The Battle Of Hogwarts. Flying overhead of the school with her old teammates, firing spells at Death Eaters felt just like a Quidditch game. Only it wasnt. This was realer. Scarier. Her friends were dropping out of the sky like flies, toppling over their brooms as the enemy fought back. Katie felt fear gripping her. They were losing. She hadnt seen her father since the war began. Leanne was long gone, and her uncle had been one of the first to fall. Katie took little solace in the fact that her mother was protected and secure at home. She wanted to find her friends, make sure her dad was okay, she wanted to go home. For once in her life, Katie wanted to be safely on the ground. The sounds of spells and bodies hitting the castle below was quite loud but even that wasnt enough to block out Oliver Wood yelling, Bell, watch out! or Alicia Spinnets scream of Katie! It took a split second for Katie to turn around, and it was already a split second too late. The flash of colour hit her eyes before the actual curse did. Katie felt light as a feather as she went over the edge of her broomstick. There it was again. That feeling of freedom. The wind rushing by her, the way she so enjoyed it. Katie Bell loved to fly. She loved being thousands of feet in the air. She had just never imagined falling. ~ Ebony
