Kayla Barker (Kayla Dawn Barker) of 995 Ramona Drive, Red Feather Lakes, CO recently took in several dogs from different shelters and individuals in NM and CO. She posed as a foster and then later as a rescue called Rocky Mountain Rebel Rescue. She has family in Fort Collins and Missouri and is willing to drive to other states to get dogs. Her daughter may also be helping her. On July 24th she surrendered 34 dogs to Larimer County Humane Society. Of the group of surrendered dogs were 8 nursing Pit Bull puppies who died of an upper respiratory illness. They were sick upon surrender. A once healthy mama Pit Bull was also surrendered and rated a 3 on a body condition score after Kayla had her for only 1 month. This poor dog is now horribly emaciated and has sores on her hips from lying on hard ground for hours at a time. It is my belief that she was using this mom to nurse several litters of puppies. Kayla did not surrender all of the dogs in her care. There are several dogs who cannot be located. Kayla has told 2 people that the dogs are either missing or dead. She also refuses to give back some of the other dogs that she kept. Animal Control has been notified and witness statements have been filed. Kayla has recently been holding adoption events in grocery store parking lots in Fort Collins. She is adopting dogs out to individuals without vaccinating or having them altered. One puppy that she adopted out a day after transport arrival, died at the adopters house two days later of unknown causes.
