Keep the umbrella handy...you will probably need it for the rest of this afternoon and this evening! The foothills, mountains and northern portions of the Front Range and are now seeing showers that will continue throughout the afternoon. The Denver Metro Area has a 60% chance of showers this afternoon and evening. The first of two weather systems is now moving through the state. Moisture streaming off of a tropical storm in the eastern Pacific is being swept into the central Rockies, bringing showers and thunderstorms to the state. The heaviest rainfall is expected over the western third of Colorado, where a Flash Flood Watch is in effect through this evening. A second weather system will move through our area on Wednesday in the form of a pretty strong cold front. This front will bring a taste of October weather to Colorado. High temperatures on Wednesday will hold in the upper 60s to low 70s at lower elevations with 50s in the mountains. Scattered showers and thunderstorms can be expected with the passage of the cold front. Much cooler air will move into the state Thursday and Friday! Highs in Denver will be around 60 and Thursday and just in the mid 50s on Friday. The coldest air will reach the Denver area early Friday, with lows in the mid 30s! Denver will likely avoid a hard freeze this time, but some areas could fall into the low to mid 30s by Friday mornings with patchy frost. Although the first system will bring the mountains rain tonight, the second will be cold enough that a few inches of snow will be possible over the northern and central mountains Thursday and early Friday. The good news on this is the timing of the rain and the cold. By Friday afternoon, skies will be sunny, but temperatures will still be chilly. A nice, dry and warm weather pattern will arrive just in time for the weekend.
