Kees Vlaardingerbroek: When father and son are both composers, - TopicsExpress

Kees Vlaardingerbroek: When father and son are both composers, there is always a huge gap in quality. I know only one couple who come out ex aequo: father Alessandro and son Domenico Scarlatti. Alessandros six Concerti Grossi published in 1740 in London are full of profound music. Especially the four concertos in minor keys. Actually, the two concertos in major keys are by a brother of Alessandros, as Michael Talbot has recently shown. Listen to No.4 in g minor to begin with and then listen to Doeminocs sonata in b minor K.87 and you will discover that K.87 is an impressive tribute to the by then lost world of his father.
