Kellie Timberlake-Lancaster with Chris Neal and 17 others9 hrs · .Wednesday, July 23: Tonight I had a dinner date. It was awesome. There was good food, great conversation, and joy. My date tonight is very handsome. He is very funny. He is 5 feet tall. My date tonight was Dane! We had a date in our room with delivered Italian. For the first time since before May 24th we sat at a table together and ate. Tonight over our meal we celebrated two victories of the day – he learned to feed himself – all by himself at lunch today and he learned to drink from a straw! He fed himself on his side of the table and I ate on my side. We talked and laughed and fellowshipped and it was AWESOME! I love it so much. I will never ever take another meal for granted. It was food for my soul. Today we also did something new. My father is in the hospital 2 streets over. I can see the tower where his room is. Dane, a hospital employee and myself went AWOL for about an hour and walked to the hospital to see our Poppy. (they knew we were going) Dane did great and we were so glad to see our Poppy. So thankful for him and how much he loves his family. He is improving and we are thankful for the prayers. Our first independent outing! He is communicating better and better every day. He gets quiet when he is tired but for the most part has become quite the chatter box which I love!!!!He is starting to ask more complex questions and he is finding words easier. He was blessed by visitors today including Chris and Sarah Neil and her sweet mom who have been an encouragement to us. His roping buddies the Hustons were here but we did not get a chance to throw a loop at anything. His adopted brother Logan stopped by to see Dane give the Sic em Bears sign. One visitor that has visited us on 2 occasions was MY second grade teacher! She is a specialized educator and is well trained in Dane’s type of needs. She has been a great resource and encouragement to me in planning for the future. She even brought pictures of me she’d saved and showed Dane –who laughed! I thought I was kinda cute! What a blessing to have someone who molded you as a young person still be invested in your family some 39 years later!!!! Mrs Randal is the kind of person we should all strive to be. I thought about how in a hurry we are - I guess we all are. I think about nights that I just “needed” to hurry and get through dinner. I see now how precious the mundane is . How the privilege of washing dirty little boy socks, mud caked jeans, sweaty athletic gear – is a gift. I praise the Lord that I still get to do that. I praise the Lord that I could eat take out in foil containers with my little man Dane. I praise the Lord that I can see that the hurry – is just something I have perceived to be important. Life is about the details - each life is unique, beautiful and to be cherished. So I think I will be in a much less hurry to “get it all done” and more in a hurry to slow down and treasure the details of life God blesses my with. “Then you will have plenty to eat and be full. You will praise the name of the Lord your God who has done miracles for you. Joel 2:26 Glory to God…. Sunday’s coming….
