Ken and I have got to tell you our terrible news. We have tragically lost Rafferty last Saturday, 19th July.. We took him with Elpida for their morning walk. I was holding Rafferty on his lead and could not hold him any longer as he was pulling so hard, so I asked Ken to take over his lead and when I passed Ken the leash Rafferty took off at the speed of light! we tried to catch him, we whistle him, we called him back, called to stop, whistle.........nothing worked, Rafferty carried on running, running running, across the golf course up to the edge of the cliff and jumped! The cliffs are very very high! We were absolutely shocked, devastated, horrified! Rafferty had jumped and there was nothing we could do! We called 999 and the coastguards came, and tried to climb down the cliff to see if Raffy was on a ledge but no, he was lying, motionless on the beach! Can you imagine? we were just beside ourselves! Rafferty ....Rafferty....... Rafferty had gone to the Rainbow Bridge, we lost him and we just had him 4 weeks! Whilst with us he had learned to sit and wait, he was clean in the house, he had good appetite and was pampered like a baby; daily brushing, showered and shampooed, smelling so nice. Rafferty was very happy and content. He was so strong, I couldnt hold him, it is all my fault, I cannot believe, my beautiful dog is gone ! The Seaford lifeguards brought him back to Seaford beach and we took him home, We said our proper good bye to him. Rafferty was such a lovely dog, such a good friend for Elpida and there he was, just lying in the boot of our car motionless. The Newhaven Coastguards and the Seaford lifeguards were fantastic, we can only praise them for their courage. Rafferty was following his hunting instinct, the Red Mist fell, he just was deaf to our desperate calls ....all went so fast. Rafferty did not suffer. He has joined the Rainbow Bridge where he is having a good time with all the setters waiting for their owners. Cannot believe it still. We took him to our vet and he will be cremated. We are absolutely devastated.
