Kevin Magnussen was by far the star of the race yesterday and is obviously MEGA talented. I mean future World Champion talented. His drive reminded me of Michael Schumachers F1 debut in the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps in 1991. Though Michael (who had never even sat in an F1 car before that day) blew peoples minds by qualifying seventh in a severely underpowered Jordan-Ford, his race ended at the second corner after blowing out his clutch at the start. Magnussen, on the other hand, not only qualified three places better than Michael did in his debut, but ran a literally flawless race to 3rd place on the winners podium, and was subsequently elevated to second place, after Daniel Riccardo’s 2nd place was stripped by the FIA because his car was running with an illegal fuel-flow rate. Consider for a moment these additional facts about Magnussen: He is only 21 years old. He is the son of super-quick former F1 driver Jan Magnussen. Before yesterday, he had never raced an F1 car. His entire F1 experience before the Australian weekend consisted of six often interrupted days of testing. In 1991, after seeing Schumi run a few more races after his debut, I was convinced, and told more than a few folks, that we were watching a genius on par with the likes of Fangio, Jim Clark, Alain Prost and yes, even Ayrton Senna. I’m willing to throw my hat in the ring again for the first time since 1991, and say that Kevin Magnussen will enter that same pantheon of heroes and become the next dominating driver in F1! - Rob en.espnf1/australia/motorsport/story/149851.html
