#Khabree - MBMC will squander Rs 25 lakh for smart-tab’s to 100 corporators At a time when the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) is struggling to boost its revenue so that it can start developmental work in the region, the standing committee on Thursday cleared a proposal to hand over 100 high-end smart tabs to all the 95 elected representatives and 5 nominated corporators. Cutting across party lines, the committee members gave their nod to invite tenders for the supply of 100 units of the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Tab-3 from the manufacturing company or its authorised dealers. The proposal would cost the civic body Rs 25.50 lakh. When contacted municipal commissioner, Suresh Kakani, said, “Handing over smart tablets is a step towards paperless operations. While intimations including info on general body meet’s can be sent via mobile, the idea was also to ensure proper utilization of the various web-based apps introduced by the civic body.” However, social activists believe that the move to buy such high end gadgets for elected representatives was nothing but a sheer wastage of tax-payer’s money. Interestingly, most of the corporators, especially the members of the coveted standing committee are already using much expensive gadgets and advanced versions of smart-phones they are going to be gifted to them by the corporation.
