Khaleda urges all to wage movement from single platform Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson, Khaleda Zia on Wednesday said there was no alternative to form a government of people’s mandate to resolve the prevailing suffocating political situation in the country. She came up with a seven-point proposal for ending the ‘political stalemate’. She reiterated her demand of holding election to Jatiya Sangsad under a non-partisan, neutral government to ensue participation of all political parties amid a level-playing field. She remanded reconstituting the election commission comprising of people acceptable to all contesting parties, neutral, efficient and honest people; amending the representation of the people order and ensuring neutral role of public administration and law enforcement agencies; correcting faults in the electoral role. The BNP chief’s proposals called for dissolution of parliament and cabinet from the day of announcing the election schedule and then the neutral government would assume office for conducting the polls. She also said army should be deployed with magistracy power immediate after announcement of the polls schedule. She also called for conducting special drive to arrest marked criminals and recover illegal arms and removing ‘controversial’ people from key posts of administration and law enforcement agencies. The BNP chief demanded release of all political prisoner and withdrawal of all ‘false’ cases filed to harass them. She also said all media outlets closed by this government should opened and all arrested newsmen including acting Amar Desh editor Mahmudur Rahman. ‘We have called all to mark January 5 as a democracy killing day. Rallies, processions would be brought out on the day to mobilise public opinion against killing of democracy,’ she said. ‘We want to advance with our programmes taking the people with us. All need to reach on a consensus to save country, restoring rights of the people and reinstating democracy. I urge all to wage greater national movement from single platform or from own platforms of all to advance the movement,’$he said.
