Khammam youth stand to lose The major issue taking centrestage is the eligibility criteria of the local unemployed youth. The authorities are still grappling with the administrative issues in preparing a shortlist. The fate of unemployed youth belonging to seven mandals of Khammam district that were merged with Andhra Pradesh hangs in balance due to lack of clarity on their residential status while filling up teachers’ post. The youth are seeking appointment to teachers’ post through District Selection Committee (DSC). The major issue taking centrestage is the eligibility criteria of the local unemployed youth. The authorities are still grappling with the administrative issues in preparing a shortlist. There are no issues for candidates who studied in Kunavaram, VR Puram, Chintoor, Nellipaka, a new mandal comprising villages from erstwhile Bhadrachalam mandal, Velerupadu and Kukunoor, including a few villages of Burgampadu mandal. But for the candidates who studied outside their mandals despite being locals were reportedly facing problems when their applications were uploaded for DSC. It is learnt that some of the applicants were sent back when they appeared for the verification of certificates citing that they don’t come under the local category, while some of them were told to bring their proof of residence. Considering the distance, nearly 300 kilometres, they had to reach their respective district headquarters - Kakinada (East Godavari) and Eluru (West Godavari). Bhadri, a native of Kunavaram, said that he was rejected after he went all the way to Kakinada for the verification of certificates. The authorities told him that he was not eligible as he had studied outside his mandal. Speaking to The Hans India on Thursday, Bhadrachalam MLA Sunnam Rajaiah said that people of the merged mandals have pursued their education in other mandals of Khammam district as they found better facilities in ITDA or State-run or private institutions. “With the last date (January 16) approaching fast for the submission of applications for the DSC, the AP Government needs to take immediate steps to address the problem,” the MLA demanded, stating that he had written a letter to AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu in this regard. Unless there is an immediate remedial measure from the government, the unemployed youth in these mandals are certain to lose an opportunity to become teachers.
