Kia ora koutou, Thanks to everyone who made it to the meeting - TopicsExpress

Kia ora koutou, Thanks to everyone who made it to the meeting on Thursday 10th October. It was an awesome turn out and it was great to see such solid support for the campaign at this early stage. Further to the decisions made at the meeting, attached to this email is the petition as well as the letter of support. The petition is addressed to the Vice-Chancellor and can be signed by any student or staff on UoA campuses. It will be delivered to the Vice Chancellor at a date TBA, and in the meantime we encourage you to print out the petition and collect the signatures of your colleagues, contacts and fellow students. Hold onto these forms and bring them along next time we meet. At the meeting we discussed the idea of a stall in the quad to collect signatures and distribute information about the campaign, but since it’s the end of the semester, it is probably best to hold off until there are more students around. In the meantime, we’ll be publicly collecting signatures at events, starting at the TEU BBQ tomorrow at 12:30. (Poster attached) Also attached is the letter of support to be signed by groups on campus (unions, student groups, departments, churches) so they can show their support for the University becoming a site where all workers receive a Living Wage. Please also distribute this through your networks. And finally, other things that we need to get the ball rolling on: · We need to make connections between the UoA campuses. If any of you know folks who study on other campuses, or do so yourself, and would like to be the contact person for that site, let us know! · We need to network with other Universities. If you have contacts with staff or students at other Universities, have a yarn to them about what were doing and see if theyre interested in building a similar campaign on their site. Or, if you know of similar campaigns already underway, let us know. · We need to research. We need to collect facts, so we can respond to detractors. How many people work on the site and are paid less than a living wage? How much would it cost to ensure all workers are paid a living wage? Whats the size of the UoA budget? How much of that goes to upper management? etc etc. We need to know our stuff so we can establish the moral high ground. · And, if you want to get involved in the administrative side of the campaign, please let us know. As the campaign grows, well need more network administrators to keep the wheels rolling. Let us know if you want to be admin in the facebook page, for example. Thanks again for your support so far, and we hope to see you tomorrow at the BBQ. The University of Auckland Living Wage Network.
