King Saul finally destroyed the lives of his children and family. At the last count, none of his children including grand children ended well. Below is a roll call of their shameful ending. 1. Jonathan, Abinadab and Malkishua died with their father Saul in battle. 2.Ishbosheth another son who made a feeble attempt at leading Israel after his fathers passage had his head cut off in his sleep by his servants. 3. Merab his eldest daughter who was pledged in marriage to David (oath promised by Saul to whoever would defeat Goliath but later married off to another man) lost 5 sons (Sauls grand children) in one day. They were actually hanged as atonement for his attempt to destroy the Gibeonites. 4. Michal, his second daughter who was married to David died childless because she mocked her husband who refused to have any dealings with her afterwards. 5. Two unnamed grand sons who were born to him by his concubine, Rizpah the daughter of Aiah died by hanging in one day at the request.of the Gibeonites. 6. Abner, son of Ner, his cousin was stabbed to death by Joab. 7.Melphibosheth Jonathans son became crippled at age 5 when he fell from his nurses hand . She tried to safeguard him when news of Sauls death reached the palace. At least, he didnt die like the others. I am certain Saul was unaware of the long term consequences of his actions while he lived. One word: we must walk in the fear of God, eschew evil and wickedness. Considering how well Saul started, need we remind ourselves that let he/she that thinks he/she stands take heed lest he/she falls?.
