Kodi is home tonight and settled in bed after a long day of procedures. We had to be at the hospital by 6:45am, but she had to be up at 5:00am to take medicine before having food/drink completely cut off for sedation. There was a bit of scheduling confusion with the computer system, but I assume most was due to the last minute addition of the port surgery. Everything got worked out fairly quickly, and we were back on track within 30 minutes or so. I spoke with Dr. Uffman, the surgeon who placed the port last month and did the revision today. The last port simply would not cooperate, although nothing appeared to be “wrong.” He ended up using a larger port and internal tubing that should serve as a “super highway” for transfusions, labs, etc. The port is on the same side, so she only had one incision today. While she was still sedated, she had the bone marrow aspirates and bone core samples drawn. The sites look good – no redness or bleeding that I can see at the moment. She will leave those bandages on for 24 hours, and the port area will need to stay dry and bandaged until Saturday. The steri-strips underneath will eventually fall off in about a week. Kodi is understandably sore and moving a bit slow, but the pain medicine is working well, and she is in fairly good spirits. She and dad will head back to the hospital tomorrow morning for CT and mibg scan. If all goes well, they should be done by 1:00pm and hopefully home by 3:00pm. Pray for continued pain management and a good night’s sleep for all.
