Korean Delegation Returns to Learn from the Game 34th National - TopicsExpress

Korean Delegation Returns to Learn from the Game 34th National Veterans Wheelchair Games kicked off with a parade of states Tuesday night that included Veteran participants representing 42 states,Puerto Rico, Guam, the District of Columbia, and Great Britain. This year a delegation of 10 people from South Korea arrived in Philly to take part in a number of events and observe how the Games are run. The Korean Delegation of the Korea Disabled Veterans Sports Council (KDVSC)/ Korea Disabled Veterans Organization (KDVO) has been attending since the 29th National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Spokane, WA, in 2009. The delegation’s visits are focused on learning more about adaptive sports, equipment and opportunities that can help develop programs, and further support for disabled Korean Veterans. As result of visiting the Games, the KDVSC has begun programs such as slalom and hand cycling to promote fitness, functional skills, and sport. Last year, they coordinated a multi-sport program involving 1500 Veterans with disabilities. During their annual visits they include tours of VA Medical Center Spinal Cord Injury and Rehabilitation Centers that have led to the remodeling of their Central Veterans Hospital in Seoul, Korea, to improve accessibility and services to their Veterans. We welcome their participation in Philadelphia and hope the experience leads to greater opportunities for Veterans in Korea.
