Kotwal chairs meet on water supply, sanitation SRINAGAR, JULY 15: Commissioner, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Dr. Pawan Kotwal today chaired a meeting of officers of PHE of Shopiam and Pulwama districts to discuss the issues regarding implementation of “Rural Water Supply and Sanitation programme” in both districts. The District level committee for water and sanitation has been framed by the Government at each district with DC as its Chairman, SE Hyd of the district would be its Member Secretary while as CEO, CPO, and District Chief Medical Officer as its members. Dr. Kotwal enquired about the working of District level Water and Sanitation Committee. He directed to expedite the formulation of village level water and sanitation committees. He also directed to avail the service of village level Committee of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in formulation of village level sanitation committee. He also directed the concerned engineers to install hand washing platforms in all government schools to inculcate the habit sanitation among the school children. The members of Village Water and Sanitation Committee should be from village level NRHM Committee, ASHA workers and local prominent citizens. The concerned junior engineer and a member of the committee from a village should open a joint account with an initial amount/contribution of Rs 1000 and then the government will release additional money in the account to meet up the petty expenditures for the maintenance of hand pumps and to meet the expenditure of refreshment to ASHA workers on account of motivating the villagers for private water connections. Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, SE, Hyd and other engineers of the Hydraulic wing of district Shopian and Pulwama attended the meeting.
