Profile Mordecai auditioned Kenchez and Wachira at the end of 2012 for a play at the Kenya National theatre. They got the roles and during the rehearsal process discovered that they shared a passion for music, spoken word poetry, comedy, dance and fashion. H_ART was formed not long after; in February 2013 the three performed together for the first time. With both Mordecai and Wachira having been crowned “Slam Africa Kings”, H_ART’s music is heavily inspired by spoken word poetry. Self taught guitarist Kenchez compliments the rhymes with smooth, danceable tunes and some undeniable Luhya swag. Everywhere H_ART performs, they leave a lasting impression. Crowds love the versatility of the performances that make them laugh until they cry. “Uliza Kiatu” – a classic song that explains that the struggles of a hassling man can only be explained by their shoes (if only they could talk!) is an all time favorite.
