LAGOS MARKS COMMUNITY DAY, CELEBRATES CDAs The Lagos State Government, today, joined the rest of the world in marking Community Day, a day set aside globally to celebrate the activities and achievements of people living in different communities all over the world. Briefing Journalist on the activities lined up to celebrate the day by the State Government, the Commissioner for Rural Development, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi said the Government decided to roll out the drums to mark the Day in appreciation of the efforts of Community Development Associations (CDAs) in partnering with the state in its developmental objectives. According to him, “the CDAs are worth celebrating for their efforts in bring together people in their various communities to enhance positive changes in their environment and improve their standard of living through self help projects and also partnership with the State Government in various developmental policies”. He disclosed that series of activities have been mapped out for the celebration which include visit to the Less Privileged Homes, Handing over of projects, Jumat Service, Health walk and Boat Regatta. Others are Community Day Celebration which will feature presentation of Awards and Grant-in-Aids for CDAs, Appreciation/Community Cultural Day and Thanksgiving service to round up celebration. He acknowledged the support of various corporate organizations and Local Governments (LGs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) that are partnering with the State Government to make the occasion memorable for the CDAs who have been complementing the efforts of the State Government in its quest to make Lagos a Mega City.
