LAGOS TRAINS INFORMATION MANAGERS The Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, in collaboration with the State Partnership for Accountability, Responsiveness and Capability (SPARC), has commenced the training of information managers in the state employ. Mrs. Oluranti Odutola, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, in a keynote address delivered at the opening ceremony said the purpose of the training is to sharpen the skills of all information managers in the state civil service towards the effective communication of reforms that have taken place overtime in the state. According to her, “training and re-training of members of staff remain a priority of the present administration in order to continually enhance service delivery in the quest to deliver the dividends of democracy while serving about 20 million Lagosians.” Noting that the state has introduced series of reforms in the civil service to enhance its business processes and make it effective and efficient, she stressed that some of the reforms include the automation of the accounting process, introduction of the Medium Term Sector Strategy in Budgeting, activation of the Human Resources module in Oracle and introduction of Service Charter among others. The Permanent Secretary reiterated that the training programme is basically designed for Heads of Public Relations Units in Ministries, Departments and Agencies in order to equip them with the skills needed in disseminating these reforms effectively to the general public as well as acquaint them with new development in the civil service for future growth. Mrs. Odutola concluded by expressing her appreciation to SPARC for the tremendous work they have been doing in the state public service and for partnering the state in organizing the training for the benefit of all Information Managers. The three-day training programme with the theme “Basic Skills for Information Management” is being held at the African Sun Amber, G.R.A Ikeja, between Monday 19 and Wednesday 20, 2014 for officers from Grade Level 08 - 12, while another one for officers on Grade Level 13 and above will hold between Thursday 20 and Friday 21, June 2014 at the same venue. Present at the opening ceremony of the 3-day training programme were the DG Office of Transformation, Mr Toba Otusanya; General Manager of SPARC, Mr. Ifeanyi Peters Ugwuoke; Director, Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mrs. Ronke Osho and other top governmental officials and resource persons.
