LANE WRITERS READING SERIES JANUARY 25, 2014 4:30pm-6:00pm*at the River Road Annex*1055 River Road Jeff Staiger graduated with highest honors in English from Williams College, and then completed a PhD. in English at UC/Berkeley. His recent essays on contemporary authors and literary culture have appeared in the Kenyon, Gettysburg, Antioch, Southwest, and New England Reviews. He is now writing several books at once. One of them is a treatise on the diminishing importance of the novel... another is, naturally, a novel... He is the Literature Librarian at the U of O and lives in Eugene with his wife, daughter, son, and no dog. Joy McDowell graduated with honors from the U of O. She has known poverty, confusion, elation and in retirement enough leisure to be grateful for her journey. Joy lived along the Coos Bay estuary for thirty years where tidal water, storms and people who work with their hands informed her words and images... Her poetry collection Diesel Horse was published in 2010, Waltzing the Dragon, in 1997. In 2010 four of Joy’s poems were published in New Poets of the American West , edited by Lowell Jaeger. Her poem “The Rest I Imagine” was awarded an Editor’s Choice Award. She has been a member of Willamette Writers, Oregon Poetry Association and the Red Sofa Poetry Critique group and is treasurer of the Lane Literary Guild. Howard W. Robertson is a fiction writer and poet who lives in Eugene, Oregon. He has published a short novel: Peculiar Pioneer (2013); and nine books of poems, including most recently: Odes to the Ki of the Universe, 2nd rev. ed. (2013); Ode to Certain Interstates (2013); and The Green Force of Spring (2013). He received Atlanta Review’s International Merit Award in 2014 and won the Sinclair Poetry Prize in 2009. His poems have been anthologized often, most recently in Literal Latté: The Anthology (iUniverse, 2008), and have been published in many literary journals, most recently in Yellow Medicine Review.
