LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION FOR NEWCOMERS TO CANADA (LINC) What is LINC? *LINC is an English language-training and settlement program funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (cic.gc.ca) that is offered at Keyano College *LINC is designed to assist in the process of cultural, social, and economic understanding to help newcomers integrate more quickly and easily into Canadian society *Keyano College currently offers part-time LINC instruction from Low Beginner to Upper Intermediate levels (CLB levels 0-5) Who Can Take LINC? *Permanent Residents or Convention Refugees, 18 years or older How to Get Started? Call 780-792-5706 or visit the Keyano College Continuing Education Office to book an appointment for an English CLB language assessment About Classes: *Classes are 12.5 hours a week and are offered in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings (Monday – Friday) *New students accepted into classes on the first Monday of every month *Class sizes are limited *Classes focus on the development of English speaking, reading, writing and listening skills *Classes also include field trips, guests speakers and the sharing of cultures Curriculum: *The LINC Program uses a theme-based curriculum *Themes include information about Canadian the following areas: *Employment *Education *Food and nutrition *Consumer information *Housing and neighbourhood issues *Health care *Recreation and entertainment
