LATEST FROM OUR PANDAMONIUM FANZINE FACEBOOK PAGE Well, its finally over (sort of!) :o I dont think it was actually too much of a shock. The whole saga starting at about 5.15pm on Saturday 6th September always looked like it was going to end with Russell no longer being Os manager. This was perhaps the only certain thing that was going to happen but the real question was how was it going to happen. Resignation? Sacked? Amicable agreement to move? Firstly lets deal with his record whilst he was here. I dont think anyone can be in any doubt he has been a fantastic manager - in fact anyone that does (even the wums, and they would be just that) is being pretty damn stupid. OK, so he won nothing, but on the budgets he had to work with the various successes he had are second to none. I wont bore people with all the list of great games etc but lets remember he equalled or better several club records while he was here and took us from a club about to get relegated to within one kick of being a second tier club once again. Put simply, the 10/11 and 13/14 seasons particularly will live long in the memory and have been, despite not adding to the trophy cabinet two of the best seasons I personally have seen in my 36 years supporting the Os. Onto the statement. It doesnt go on for very long - just one paragraph in fact, but I think it is clear that what we are now doing IMO is the clubs lawyers are looking at some sort of tapping up of Slade / illegal approach (whatever you wish to call it) and that we will be seeking presumably compensation. The only other thing it maybe is are the clubs lawyers looking at the contract with Slade and what would be quite a groundbreaking move in that could Slade be sued if he took another job? I doubt it matters a lot, but are we also looking to try and cause our own trouble by playing the game of if you aint gonna work for us, then you aint gonna work elsewhere (at least for a certain period of time) ??? Whatever happens there is no way back for him so we will be looking for a new manager. In between that and what has gone on, I stick by my original assumption and opinion that this has been very badly handled by all and I sincerely hopes EVERYONE involved has learnt something for the future. Not wanting Slade to go, you could also argue that Cardiff have acted inappropriately by heaping pressure on Slade and more importantly LOFC. Like I said on one of the other threads these days there is very little love and loyalty left in football when it comes to player transfer / managers sackings / moves and money etc and I suppose Cardiff did what any other club would have done to get their man, but it leaves a bit of a bitter taste in the mouth to be honest. The only one good thing to come from it all is that it will hopefully now be over very quickly. Certainly (if I was Becchetti) I would get all the legal bit done nice and quickly and behind doors. Get them to pay up or go for whatever we think might be fair for losing a good manager whilst getting on with appointing the RIGHT person the FIRST time in the role for new manager. Nugent is a target for the board I am led to believe, however Nuge is also (led to believe) wanted by Slade to join him in South Wales. Speaking to Kev on several occassions in the past (look at me moment coming) and I knew him very well when he played at the Os (granted that was some time ago) he has always said he would like to become a manager but it had to be right club, right time. Is that now? God only knows? He is however thought to be a very clever tactician and commands respect in the dressing room and on the training ground. He would of course provide continuity, but the obvious question would be experience as a number one, which is of course nil. In terms of other names. Hughton - well I certainly think he may be a good appointment. He appears a very level headed guy that could certainly steady the ship and take us on, but then I am sure there are a number of good people out there who could do the same. What we dont need now is a merry go round of managers! Unfortunately, the whole sorry saga was perhaps always going to end badly and leave a bad taste in the mouth, but as always we still have a club to support and what the fans must do now is whoever the boss is on Saturday is back the players 110% and get back to the job of winning football matches to get this season going. Cheers for the memories Russ
