LATEST UPDATE from DDAWPs Andrea Gung in China: Its been a very exciting few days. Since our first posting about the rescue on 8/3, as of tonight, about 10 trucks have been successfully stopped at different locations. The most recent one happened in a place near Beijing today (8/11, 9:00 am pacific time). All thanks to the tireless and devoted local activists and volunteers. All the recent rescues are executed the same pattern: As soon some dog loving person spotted a dog truck, that person took a photo of the license plate, and sent it along with the location of the truck to different groups via internet. The truck was then followed closely till other cars would join in and together block the truck at a toll booth, or call the police to stop the truck. As soon as the truck is stopped, volunteers climb up the truck to comfort the dogs and give them water. My friend, Ms. Xu Yu Feng, who was one of the first truck chasers on 8/3, told me that at the end, about 200 cars showed up and about 700 or 800 volunteers came to help. Chinese activists are all elated. We believe this is a big blow to the dog thieves and that these highway rescues will build more momentum and empower more people to help animals in China. However, this also shows the overwhelming severity of the dog and cat meat trade in China. We still have a long way to go. But with your support and local activists devotion, we firmly believe the tide is turning and we will get the heinous dog and cat meat trade stopped. I have related all the wonderful and encouraging words from our supporters to some local activists that I have met in the last few days. They are all grateful and deeply touched by the support and caring from friends all over the world. Thank you all, Andrea
