LAUNCH CEREMONY OF OVERSEAS PAKISTAN TRUST In a glittering, star studded ceremony Overseas Pakistan Trust launched itself with a bang. London came alive on the night of 10th October 2014 when a new entity Overseas Pakistan Trust held its inauguration. With celebrities flown in from Pakistan, hit names like Iqrar Ul Hasan of Sar e aam fame and Waseem Badami with his masoomana Sawal took to the stage amongst thunderous clapping from the 400 guests. Recognition shields were presented to Light weight boxer Haroon Khan, younger brother of celebrity boxer Amir Khan, for winning a bronze medal in the common wealth games by Former high commissioner Wajid Shams, to Dr Murtaza of Ealing in the field of medicine by Seema Malhotra MP and shadow cabinet member, to Shehneela Ahmed for being the only Asian football agent by Mr Faiz Rasool, to Rajab Ali for A lifetime achievement in music by Verinder Sharma MP and Mr Zubair Gul president PMLN UK and to Mr Akram Gill of Pak Mecca Halal meat in business by Mr Sarbuland. Shabnam Majeed specially came to London to perform on the night and enthralled the audience to her ever popular melodious notes of Dil cheez hay kya jana and other songs while Rajab Ali captured the audience with his songs the most popular of which was Zindagi Apni Guzar jaegi Aram Kay sath. Local singers Sohail Salamat, Rajah Kaasheff and Rubayat Jahan also performed on the night. With a star studded guest list of MPs, MEPs and other dignitaries, TV and music celebrities and cream of the business community, the evening proved to be a huge success and a program where the carriages were announced for 11:30 guests decided to stay on with the party going strong till 12:30am. It was also good to note the presence of members of all different political affiliations enjoying an evening of brother hood in a Pakistani environment. One saw Labour MPs alongside Lib Dem Lord Qurban and Labour MEP Afzal Khan alongside conservative MEP Sajjad Karim. Similarly Mr Zubair Gul President of PMLN UK came with his guests and also present were President London PTI Asim khan, Atif Choudhary, Sahibzadah Jehangir and their team. Agha Tanveer represented PPP with his guests. PJ Mir President of Din TV and Labour Councillor Natasha Ahmed-Shaikh hosted this very well organised event on the stage. Cllr Natasha informed the guests that this Trust had been formed with the main aim of improving not just the softer but the overall image of Pakistan and Pakistanis, the world over and that would be done by highlighting and promoting every achievement of Pakistanis be they in Pakistan or any corner of the world. She said that under the umbrella of the trust they were taking this opportunity to announce their first event of recognising and promoting Pakistanis and their achievements on the 21st of March 2015 at a central London location. She said that she and the entire team was eternally grateful to all the guests who had come out to show their support and hoped that they would all be using the website to nominate the ones they believed were worthy of receiving an award. Mr Umer Malik is the chairman of the trust The Overseas Pakistan Trust has three core teams, the first is the Organisers Committee and its members for this function were Jamshed Riaz, Anees Nasir, Munazza Muskan, Usman Yusuf and Haroon Akhtar. The second team is the Advisory board of which Cllr Natasha Ahmed-Shaikh is the chairperson and other members include businessman Mr Jawad Raza, Mrs Bashan Rafique president APWA UK, Mrs Muneeza Baseer President Nazia Hasan Foundation, Barrister Anas Khan of Thomson & Co. The third team is the judges panel and that includes various MPs, Lords and business persons. Almost all Pakistani ethnic Electronic, online and print media covered the event fully with CEOS of atleast three channels, Mr and Mrs Haroon of PTV Prime, Mr Khalil Rana of PTV Global & Mr and Mrs Tahir of Venus TV attended as well.
