LDWS PREFERRED TUNES, #311: ANGIE — The Rolling Stones - TopicsExpress

LDWS PREFERRED TUNES, #311: ANGIE — The Rolling Stones (1973) I dont think anyone would argue — I certainly wouldnt — that Angie is in the top tier of the Stones oeuvre. It hasnt the incisive cultural criticism married to potent metaphor and intoxicating arrangement thats the hallmark of such songs as Paint It, Black or Sympathy for the Devil, nor is it as raw and savage as Gimme Shelter, nor is it even in the top flight of the Stones surprisingly large catalog of ballads (Ruby Tuesday, As Tears Go By, Let it Bleed, Wild Horses). It doesnt contain any Ultimate Truisms of Life, as in You Cant Always Get What You Want, nor a killer riff as in Satisfaction. But its on this list — whereas some of the above songs dont make it — for one reason, the only one that counts on this list: I like it. I always, invariably, turn it up and sing along. Maybe you do too. https://youtube/watch?v=RcZn2-bGXqQ
