LEERO MU MAWULIRE; The ministry of relief, refugees and disaster preparedness has today announced that 530,000 Ugandans are at high risk of suffering gross effects of hunger. Addressing journalists this afternoon, the disaster minister, Hilary Onek and the acting commissioner disaster, Rose Nakabugo estimate that about 60 districts with over millions of people are in dear need for relief in terms of food with the main hit being the people of Karamoja. Mwanje reveals to the radio that the affected farms are mainly in the west, central and north though he assures that the past seasons had given the service more food which is now still kept in the silos and will be used to feed prisons hoping that the draught does not continue. The ministry of finance has today announced that it has released UGX.2.35 trillion for the 2013/14 1st quarters budget funding representing a 21% of the budget allocation, among the funds released include teacher’s salaries totaling to UGX.44.08 Bn. Speaking to the media to announce the release today, the permanent secretary to the treasury, Keith Muhakanizi reveals that the funds released are to implement govt projects and programmees in the Health, education, water and environment, works and transport, agriculture and energy but warns all accounting officers of different govt entities to desist from paying out monies to ghost servants. The M23 head of negotiating team in Kampala, Rene’ Abanah reveals that the group has great hopes in the coming great lakes region meeting slated for 31st July 2013 in the Kenyan capital Nairobi. Rene’ states that the meeting that is to discuss regional conflicts with the aim of finding a lasting solution to the problem hopes that it will discuss on how DRC govt and M23 can expeditiously go about the talks in Kampala that are currently static.
